Introducing Spike 2.0
There’s a new face in town, and it’s not just any bus. Meet Spike 2.0, the latest vehicle in the Exmouth Bus Charter fleet, wrapped in a vibrant fusion of culture, Country, and wildlife.
Designed in collaboration with Baiyungu artist Rachael Cooyou and local photographer Tash Allen, Spike 2.0 is more than just a means of transport. It’s a tribute to the deep connections between people, animals, and the land we call home.
Rachael’s artwork brings the Dreaming to life, sharing the cultural significance of animals like the kangaroo, echidna, goanna, and emu, each a spiritual totem, a teacher, and a storyteller.
“These animals are celebrated in songs, dances, and artworks,” says Rachael. “They’ve guided us for generations, showing us where to find water, where to shelter, and how to live respectfully with nature.”
Taking inspiration from these stories, Tash selected photographs of local creatures that echo these totems, from a much-loved emu to a nesting osprey family, pink galahs, and even a few reptiles for the herpetology fans: the northern spiny-tailed gecko, a perentie, and the rarely seen Pilbara death adder.
“We wanted each bus in the fleet to tell a different ecological story,” says Tash. “Spike 2.0 is all about the reptiles and birds. It’s a way to showcase the incredible biodiversity of the North West Cape.”
Seeing these elements brought together on a full vehicle wrap is a powerful experience. “It’s amazing to see your work on something so large and mobile,” says Tash. “I hope it sparks curiosity and appreciation for the place we live.”
